It seems nowadays we can’t go out for brunch, lunch or dinner without sharing what we’re soon to devour with our Instagram followers. Most of the time the lighting is terrible, the angle is all wrong (we’d look stupid standing on our chairs right?) and our photography skills make our food look like something we’d rather give to a dog than be sharing on social media (so we end up deleting it anyway, or is that just me!?).
I love Instagram for its endless inspiration of new places to eat and foods to discover. Recently I couldn’t help but notice there’s been a handful of London cafes and restaurants that just won’t stay off my feed! Instagrammers are going flat-lay crazy for these yummy places to eat in London, so I thought I’d share them with you so you can pop along for yourselves. Make sure you tag @dontforgetthepassports so we can check out your dinner (and flat-lay skills)!
Chelsea | www.chicamalondon.com
Chimaca, a vibrant and stylish Peruvian inspired seafood restaurant in Chelsea, makes for the prettiest of flat-lays! With its dusty pink crockery, beautiful complementary floor tiles and popping colours from the perfectly presented dishes (sometimes adorned with flower petals!), Instagrammers can’t help but go crazy for this place.
The menu is based on sharing dishes, of which they recommend at least 4 per person. You will not find any meat on the menu, just a whole load of zesty, melt-in-the-mouth seafood and vegetable dishes.
Chimaca can also be enjoyed in the fresh (ahem – this is London) air on a sunny day while dining in the outdoor area, which is quite a luxury for the city!
Must-tries: Tapioca Marshmallows, Salt Cod Pancakes
Farm Girl Cafe
59A Portobello Road | www.thefarmgirl.co.uk
The interiors of this Notting Hill cafe are just stunning so there’s no wonder it’s become so popular on social media. Designed by the lovely Beata Heuman, the design gives the cafe a light, comfortable and outdoorsy feel with its beautiful handmade wall tiles and pendant birdcage lighting. To read more about Beata’s work at Farm Girl, have a read of this post on House and Garden. This virtually iconic rustic pink table at Farm Girl Cafe has been popping up on my feed endlessly! The table (shown below) is in such high demand that according to @Londoncoffeeshops, bloggers wait for hours to get a seat here to get that perfect pastel pink backdrop for their shots!
The self-proclaimed holistic and healthy Australian style cafe, takes its seat in the heart of Notting Hill, offering an array of nutritionally nourishing breakfasts, brunches and lunches!
Must Tries: Matcha Latte
Rail House Cafe
8 Sir Simon Milton Square, Victoria | www.railhouse.cafe
This popular cafe was founded by Adam White, co-founder of renowned brasserie The Riding House Cafe. With a large outside seating area, an upstairs bar and a private dining room, it’s the perfect escape from the hectic and bustling Victoria.
The baked eggs are super popular with London bloggers, along with the cafes stunning interiors featuring super long reclaimed wooden tables and marvellously minty green and grey upholstered sofa seating (to-die-for!) that match the gorgeous table tiles in the outside area.
Don’t worry if you’ve missed brunch or lunch as the cafe serves dinner as late as 10:30 pm (Mon-Sat).
Peggy Porschen Cakes
116 Ebury St, Belgravia | www.peggyporschen.com
Reported to sell the “the best cupcakes in the world” by Vanity Fair, it would be a crime to miss out on this pretty pink boutique bakery. With the cutest facade in all of London, you will not be able to resist taking a snap!
The Belgravia parlour was opened in 2010 by award winning cake designer and author Peggy Porschen and her husband Bryn Morrow. Since then they have been serving up freshly baked cupcakes, cookies and layer cakes and a selection of Peggy’s own blend teas, inspired by flavours found in her kitchen. If you’re a tea and cake lover like me, this one is not to be missed!
Nothing beats the uniquely illustrated facade of Biscuiteers situated in the vibrant heart of Notting Hill. It has been popping up all over Instagram in recent months and rightly so! The outside is not the only feast for your eyes as once you enter you will be greeted by biscuit designs beyond your wildest dreams, from superheroes to shoes and handbags!
You will discover the Biscuiteers Icing School downstairs where you too can learn to become a Biscuiteer. With multiple classes to choose from you’ll be sure to leave with plenty of tips and techniques from their expert icers.
Tandoori Chop House (pretty City London)
8 Adeleide St, Hoxton | www.tandoorchophouse.com
One of my favourite instagrammers, @Prettycitylondon, found that the Tandoori Chop House was so pretty she just had to create a new hashtag, #prettycitylondoneats! I’m not surprised though, those tiles, chairs and plates do make this place darn pretty!
Serving a perfect blend of classic British chop house and North Indian communal eatery, you can expect to find the very best prime cuts of meat flavoured with mouth-watering Indian spices and marinades.
